  1. And yet it still managed to garner a 2.

  2. Ewww.....

It looks as vile as the "Chow Pasta" alfredo. And I suspect for much the same reason

  3. I saw this stuff in the grocery store a few weeks ago, during the blizzard, and said "This has to get reviewed on the ramen blog." And here you go, reviewing it before I even mention it to you!

I'm glad it was just as awful as I hoped.

Well, it was edible... and strangely, after a couple distressing bites, I found myself wanting to finish it, even though I knew it tasted miserable. I reserve a "one" rank for stuff that I can't finish at all.

    Pat:
I have a handful of other truly frightening Americanised noodle bowls that I'm eager to disturb everyone with. Oh, it will be glorious. And... loaded with trans-fats, probably. *cringe*

    Jason:
Heh. Yeah, I think it was a Safeway at which I found this particular abomination. Kristy said, "Oh, you have to review that," and I said, "But I only review food." She won out.

  5. After all, the name of the blog is "Cheaper Than Food".

(My dad bought some of this stuff once. I refused to even touch it.)

  7. They actually show television commercials here for this slop. Blech.

  8. You all have no taste!!! I think this is way more worth your money than easy mac. It's basically the same thing.

  9. the cheese flavor is slightly saltier and runnier than Kraft Blue box mac n' cheese, but it is very similar. If you like blue box mac n' cheese, you'll like this. If you like real mac n' cheese or normal ramen flavors, this stuff isn't for you.

It might be that many years have passed since I last felt compelled to eat "blue-box" macaroni and cheese. I'll leave the side-by-side comparison to those more inclined toward such. The reason I reviewed this... product... is because it clearly has absolutely zero relation to yakisoba save longish noodles, yet there's the word right on the packaging. It's absurd, and not even in a delightful way.

If I were here to battle with other blogs, I wouldn't have started. There are a hojillion blogs out there for food reviews, covering gourmet food, fast food, instant food, disgusting food, particularly ethnic food, and even ramen noodles. Some are kind, some are snarky, some are downright hostile, and some haven't any soul. What they have in common, however, is that they lack my hat, my height, and my IKEA chopsticks. Thus, I have made my own niche.

    A. Mouse (the second):
They show television commercials for anything these days. If they can advertise the movie "Pink Panther 2" in good conscience, then they can advertise absolutely anything. Dreadful, isn't it?

    A. Mouse (the third):
    Thank you for... contributing.

  11. I eat this stuff for its price, really, and my grocery store doesn't have that great of a selection, but my favorite is still the beef teriyaki chow mein by nissin. This cheese stuff, after eating it subsequent uncountable times, is definitely starting to lose its appeal to me. It still has a very strange aftertaste that leaves me wondering (in a bad way) how they made that packet of salt and chemicals taste almost like cheese. Whatever, they're on sale, and that's enough to settle my stomach a little.

p.s. chow pasta alfredo? is that by nissin? I'll have to keep an eye out for that. I like the yakisoba noodles, but I like the nissin flavors better.

  12. you people are redicca-lus.
Maruchan cheddar noodles are AMAZING. My family ordered a crate online after the nearby stores stopped selling them.

  13. MY MOM THINKS THAT YOU CHEDDAR CHEESE FLAVOR IS DA "BOMB" THAT MEANS AWESOME. ANYWAY SHE WANTS TO KNOW WHERE IT CAN BE PURCHASED, SHE IS UNABLE TO FIND IN STORES.

Really, it just goes to show that everyone has different tastes. I do find myself wondering what folks in Eastern regions would think of the dish.

I'm afraid that recommending food stores is no more within the scope of my blog than proper typography is within the scope of your caps-lock key.

  15. Maybe I'm a glutton but I like this flavor. I've 3 boxes at my desk. To be completely honest I like the cheese noodles that come in the cup rather than these yakisoba dishes but they're still good. I guess I'm keeping them in business.

  16. Have you tried the other Maruchan Yakisoba? They sell the Teriyaki one at the 7/11 here and it's the best noodle/water thing I've ever had by far. I don't eat a lot of them though so in particular, ymmv.

  22. It's hit-or-miss. Sometimes, it stays watery no matter how much or how little water you add; sometimes, the noodles soak up every drop, leaving a nice pseudocheesy pasta mop that I personally enjoy.

It's not food, no. But it doesn't pretend to be. It's an enjoyable snack.

  23. Yeah, this stuff was pretty nasty. Only bought it once... tried the alfredo one also, and it's horrible. Who knew Maruchan could do something so wrong.

  24. I like how it denotes that if may explode if you don't fill water to the fill line. I read all the ingredients to the Yakisoba Cheddar Cheese flavor Ramen Noodles for a web series I'm doing, you should check it out if you like humor and cheese. Get it? Humor and cheese? Auggghhhhh! The puns! Just go to YouTube and search for "Maruchan Yakisoba Ingredients - To Smooth Jazz!"

  26. Don't know exactly if my self proclaimed title is something to be proud of, but I've had a lot of ramen, and developed my own method of cooking the tasty bricks. Maruchan's noodles have a better texture then Nissin's, I've found. I only ever use half a spice packet, and the extra chili kick in this flavor is nice.
